A dating app for dog people: Dig

Spending another Valentine’s Day with your dog? Sounds perfect! But, if you’re looking for romance with a compatible dog person, then we might just have the answer for you….

Founded by dog-loving, tech-savvy sisters, Dig is a brand new, New Orleans-based startup that has created a dating app that “cuts to the chase and connects dog people based on what’s most important to them: their dogs or their future dogs.”

“When you’re dating and you’re a dog owner, it doesn’t matter who reaches out first or how many friends you have in common. If you don’t get along with my dog, it’s never going to work.” ~Leigh Isaacson, Dig co-founder and CEO

How it works

The Sniff is all about innovative ideas that better the lives of people and their dogs, so Dig caught my attention as soon as I stumbled across it. This simple video, below, explains how the app works.

Highlights

I downloaded the Dig app (don’t worry, hubs, it was just for research purposes!) and I was impressed by how simple and intuitive it was to use. I also like that it prompts users to enter their preferences for not just a human match, but also dog! Seeing as it’s not uncommon for dogs to be particular about their dog friends, this limiting ability is a practical feature.

Another neat feature is suggested dog-friendly date locations!

A focus on giving back

Another aspect of Dig that warms my heart (and not just because Cupid is around) is the startup’s commitment to helping rescue dogs. Every dog pictured on the app and on Dig’s Instagram account is available for adoption, which is great exposure! Dig’s launch events in each city are also doubling as adoption events for invited rescue groups with raffles to benefit them. (Interested in partnering with Dig to get your pups some exposure? Contact them through this form!)

What the future holds

As of this writing, Dig has launched in New York City. Although the app works everywhere, some features such as the dog-friendly locations feature will only work in NYC for a few months. The founders’ plan is to launch in the Austin and New Orleans region, next!

So what do you think, single dog people? Are you going to give Dig a try? Let us know in the comments below!

Ok. I live in New Orleans. You created this app here and it’s not available here? This place is a dating wasteland, so with this at least I get to meet some amazing dogs!! What can I do to help y’all get it going? Very excited. Woof.
